UPDATE: The Garbage In Ottawa
It's almost unfathomable that Ottawa could have been as bad as they were this past season, only one year after losing game 7 in the ECF in 2017. But, they surprised us.
The "Shitshow", which is what we will refer to Ottawa from here on out, is a mess that can only be remedied by a new ownership group. While we truly believe that Ottawa's woes stem from Eugene Smelnyk, there seemed to be some team troubles. Though we can't confirm this is why they never meshed as a cohesive unit this year, we can't help to think that there was something going on. Enter this story...
It's no secret sports wives and girlfriends don't always get along, and this can affect the team dynamic. According to the Ottawa Citizen, this may have been the case.
Enter Erik and Melinda Karlsson and Mike Hoffman's...fiancee, Monika Caryk.

Now Erik Karlsson is a world-class defenseman that is/was the face of the Shitshow. Not only is a great hockey player, but everything we've seen from him and how he conducts himself leads us to believe he's a good human too. This year sucked for the guy. Coming back from surgery, but most importantly, he and Melinda lost their child. Words cannot express how we feel, and our love goes out to them.
Back to Monika Caryk.
Again, hockey wives don't always see eye to eye, but according to Melinda Karlsson, Caryk said some pretty shitty things that involved the Karlsson's unborn son:
This is so serious that the Karlsson's brought it to the Canadian judicial system where a Peace Bond, or for our American Team....a restraining order, against Monika Caryk.
When Hoffman was reached out to for a comment, he defended his fiancee and reassured that he nor Caryk were not behind the harassment.
As an ongoing investigation pends, we can only surmise that these two dudes will be shipped out of Ottawa soon.
The fact that anyone would make such garbage comments is disgusting. Whether it was Caryk, or someone else. Whoever was at the heart of this...you're a garbage fucking person. In the meantime, we'll keep you updated, but let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Finally, to the fans in Ottawa...you deserve so much better from an organization and we hope things turn the corner for you soon.
This is a tweet from some players wives...
oh man if you only knew how unsurprising this actually is. horrible just horrible. and the worst part of all of this is how @MelindaCurrey just wanted to keep this private because she’s THAT nice of a person even when a person can be this cruel to her. https://t.co/L3UEmuIpDO— Marlee Hammond (@marlee_kat) June 12, 2018
This crossed the line from cyber bullying to something entirely different in April. Unfortunate that this private matter has become public. Incredibly proud of my girl for standing up for herself and her family, it took courage. https://t.co/wAOwGTlKy2— Julie (@julieturris) June 12, 2018
I’ve read hundreds of these comments being made. They are unrelenting, methodical and disturbing. This person has no business going anywhere near the women in the hockey community ever again. https://t.co/gxAVAW6S6j— Taylor Winnik (@TaylorWinnik) June 12, 2018
